The Kazakhstan Open Linguistics Olympiad (KOLO) is an academic competition for schoolchildren and school graduates that focuses on studying the structure and laws of language through logical analysis. The founder and current president of the Organisation is Sapar Nauan, who made the initiative come true, and the first vice-president is Tatiyev Daniyar, a main contributor to the popularisation of the Olympiad.
The main goals of KOLO are to develop and popularise the linguistic Olympiad movement in Kazakhstan, to increase interest in linguistics among schoolchildren and graduates, to develop logical and analytical thinking skills, and to prepare participants for the format of international linguistic competitions. In addition, the Olympiad aims to make linguistics accessible as a scientific subject and introduce it to a wide audience.
KOLO is based on the format of international Olympiads and helps participants understand a language's internal structure by solving logical problems in unfamiliar languages.
