Decoding Language Through Logic

Welcome to the Kazakhstan Open Linguistics Olympiad (KOLO) — a student-led academic competition designed to challenge and inspire students through the logic and structure of language.

KOLO introduces participants to linguistic problem-solving, where no prior knowledge of specific languages is required. Instead, students use reasoning, patterns, and analytical thinking to decode unfamiliar language systems.

Inspired by international competitions such as the International Linguistics Olympiad, KOLO aims to make linguistics accessible, engaging, and intellectually challenging for both school students and school graduates

What is KOLO?

KOLO is an open competition where participants:

• Solve linguistic puzzles

• Analyse unfamiliar languages

• Identify grammatical and logical patterns

• Develop critical thinking skills

No prior linguistics background is required — only curiosity and logic.

Why "Kazakhstan"?

Flag of Republic of Kazakhstan

The name “Kazakhstan” indicates the country in which the Olympiad is organised and indicates that its main participants are from Kazakhstan. In addition, the “Open” format indicates that it is open to other countries.
